TAFIYAR MATASAN AREWA
Building a united, empowered and progressive generation of Northern Nigerian youth, across 19 states and the FCT.
A united, organised youth movement
Tafiyar Matasan Arewa brings young people, women and community groups together across the 19 Northern states and the FCT. Every group keeps its own name and leaders. Together we speak with one voice, peacefully and lawfully.
Our vision
To be the strongest and best organised youth movement in Northern Nigeria.
Our mission
To bring small and large groups of women and men across the North into one coordinated force that empowers youth and builds a better future.
Why we exist
Northern youth are many and capable, but often divided and left out of big decisions. We exist to unite, organise and empower them.
What we do
We build partnerships, train and mobilise young people, support communities and encourage responsible civic participation.
Who we serve
Young people, women and community groups across the 19 Northern states and the FCT.

Responsible civic and democratic participation
We believe young people must take part in democracy responsibly, peacefully and lawfully. We promote voter education, responsible citizenship, accountability and youth representation. As part of this, we plan to choose and support leaders who earn our trust, for president, governor, National and State Assembly and other offices across Nigeria. We will do it openly, fairly and by the law.
How we choose the leaders we back
- Set clear standardsHonesty, ability, service to the people, and a real plan for jobs, education, security and unity.
- Listen to our peopleState Coordinators, partner groups and communities tell us who they trust and what they need.
- Judge on record and plansEvery candidate is measured against the same standards, by their past work and their promises.
- Decide togetherThe national leadership and Coalition Council make the final decision after the state reports.
- Back them peacefullyWe campaign for our choices with facts, with respect, and within INEC rules and the Electoral Act 2026.
- Announce openlyWe share our decisions with all partners and the public, and we report on our progress.
Our 2027 planning target
We will work to win 45–60% of Northern youth votes for the candidates we choose to back, at every level. This is a planning target, not a promise. We will do it openly, peacefully and within INEC rules and the Electoral Act 2026.
How we back every candidate we choose
- Announce our support openly to all partners and the public
- Mobilise our members and partner groups in their state and area
- Run voter registration and PVC checks
- Door-to-door, market and campus outreach
- Online campaign based on facts, in Hausa, Kanuri and Fulfulde
- Polling-unit turnout plans, always peaceful and within INEC rules and the Electoral Act 2026

Building strong partnerships for greater impact
More than 160 organisations have joined us. Many more are at different stages of discussion and engagement. The directory below contains a selection of partner organisations currently entered in the website records; it is not the full list of 160+ partners.
Partnership with educational institutions and faith leaders
We work with Islamiyya schools, Qur’an memorisation schools, schools for married women, imams, churches, pastors and many community leaders across Northern Nigeria. We do not publish some of these partners’ names or photographs on social media out of respect for religious institutions, scholars and community leaders. We respect every faith and approach these relationships with dignity and mutual understanding.
Organisations in discussion
We are in discussions with many additional youth, women’s, student, community, professional and faith-based organisations at different stages. Discussions do not mean an agreement has been finalised. Each organisation retains its own name, leadership and identity.
